Day 14: 30 Days of Gratitude

Lord, “You are good, and what You do is good…” (Psalm 119:68)

Anytime I feel doubt creeping in, or the claws of distress, a primary reason is that I have forgotten what God has done in the past. He IS good. And because He is good, He DOES good.

Today, I have spent time thinking about what God has done. Much of it is private, and I won’t write it in a public forum. However, the fact is, He has always been good to me. When I’ve been in a difficult time of life or felt like I was in darkness, the truth was/is that I’ve been held in His hands ALL of my days.

Today, we sang Во всем Твоя благость Бог, or The Goodness of God, in English. I have been blessed by this song since the first time I heard it. Today, though, some of the lyrics just pierced my heart today, and reminded me how grateful I am for His goodness.

“I love Your voice. You have led me through the fire. In the darkest night, You are close like no other. I’ve known You as a Father. I’ve known You as a friend. And I have lived in the Goodness of God.”

“And all my life, You have been faithful, and You have been so, so good.”

There are so many times in life when circumstances say that God has forgotten to do good when He does or allows something that I don’t like. The reality is, He is good, and He only does good. There are certainly things that God does and allows in which with my earthly eyes can see no good. But, I don’t see the entire picture.

Think about and remember what He has done in the past. His faithfulness persists. And His goodness is running after us!

  1. YES, HIS faithfulness persists. HIS faithfulness is faithful. HIS faithfulness is good. HiS faithfulness never ends…because HE loves us so much. I love the song, WHEN HE WAS ON THE CROSS, I WAS ON HIS MIND.

  2. I too have been remembering some of the things the Lord has done for me and my family. Sometimes, the noise of the world and my frenetic motions of self make that “still quiet” voice of God impossible to hear. That is always an indicator of poor quiet time prioritizing.

  3. Hey Chris, I so love your post today. And that song…wow! Just happened to spend time in Psalm 23 this morning. I was especially struck by verse 6 (New Living Translation): “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,”–God’s goodness pursuing us! And then tonight…your post and that song…thank you! I am experiencing some hard daily things right now. Thank you for encouraging me to stand firm in and host fast to His goodness!

    1. So glad you are remembering His goodness! The Psalmist often found himself in the depths of yuck. “And then I remembered…”
His unfailing love is pursuing you! (And me.) (And us.)
